Hello, my name is Gérald. Thank you for visiting my website. Let me say what a courageous act it is on your part to reach out, be curious even, about Death and dying.

I am a certified Contemplative End of Life Care (CEOLC) provider. People who receive this training also go by other names such as Death Doula, Death Midwife, Death Coach, Thanadoula, and Deathcare Practitioner.

Why the need for a Deathcare Practitioner?

We live in a death phobic culture which can make dying hard and cause unnecessary suffering for both the dying person and their family, friends and care givers.

No one teaches us about dying and how to die wise, and most of us have witnessed death with very little understanding of what is happening as a dying person’s diminishment unfolds before our eyes. Medical staff usually have limited time to address family members' concerns about the unfolding symptoms that a dying person exhibits. A great majority of people come to their dying time illiterate of how to proceed. As a Deathcare Practitioner I help the dying and their family by providing support, education, and guidance before and during the experience. I am also there for the deceased person’s family after their loved one has taken their last breath.

What if grief was a skill that could be learned and carried well rather than something to get over or medicate? In a time and place that prioritizes youth, potential, and the upside of everything, in a time when Life has gone from an expectation, to a demand, to a personal possession to be controlled according to our personal preferences, Gérald Fournier takes the less travelled road and honours Death, dying and endings. In doing so, he does the hard work of reminding us what it means to be human, while pleading with us to lend a hand.  -- Naomi Guilbert
